Strategic Environmental Assessment

for the National Sugar Adaptation Strategy

Trinidad and Tobago

In January 2009, The European Commission contracted Dr. Mary Matthews, through ScanAgri/Niras to serve as Team Leader for the Strategic Environmental Assessment for the EU Sectoral Support for the Trinidad and Tobago National Sugar Adaptation Strategy. Glenroy Ennis joined as the Agricultural Expert in February. As a team, Mary and Glenroy worked with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to identify the challenges of the government divestment from the sugar sector in order to strengthen the support to agricultural diversification, residential construction, and heavy and light industrial sectors. This multisectoral SEA provided the team from Eco Social Solutions to identify innovative and feasible opportunities for the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to develop these sectors in cost effective, environmentally friendly, and sustainable ways. The importance of multi-sectoral and multiple stakeholder inputs, a strong commitment from the EU Delegation in Port of Spain and strong support from key stakeholders within the Government.

Below are the working documents, meeting minutes, presentations and links to the project blog used to keep stakeholders informed throughout the SEA.
